Job Creation Project | Green Lake Snowmobile Club

Do you have a business, particular skill set or talent that you would like to make available to other members of the club? We would love to know about it! We are trying to create a list of skills to enable us to use our own resources to help with club or members’ tasks. We would rather pay our own members for services instead of paying travel costs for someone to come from outside the 70 Mile House area. We feel this will help build stronger ties of community within the club, and add a greater sense of ownership to our wonderful region. We often get calls from people who become stuck or lost out on the trails and beyond. Keep in mind that you need to go prepared, in case it happens to you. The snowmobile club will try to assist if possible, but please note that this is not a given. It will depend upon what, where, when, and who is available to go out. We are not trained or equipped for rescue operations. Sometimes your best bet may be to call Cariboo Search and Rescue 250-395-3210 or police. Here is a minimal checklist of how you can prepare:
Never ride alone!
Leave a route plan with someone at home, and stick to it.
Have a collapsible snow shovel with you in case you need to dig your sled out.
Take your fully charged cell phone with you, and extra power for it if you can.
Take snacks and water
Take a flashlight (Not your phone).
Have the ability to make a fire.
Have an emergency heat blanket in case you are stuck overnight.
Remember your GPS if you have one.
Put the Search and Rescue and other emergency phone numbers into your phone.

Job Creation Project

Our major focus this year is adding indoor washrooms to the Clubhouse, along with a septic field, complete exterior painting of the Clubhouse and widening and restoring the major trails that have been damaged due to the pine beetle epidemic. This also includes upgrades to Jeep Lake and Crater Lake areas.

To achieve these goals we have worked all summer on obtaining funding under the Job Creation Partnership project with the Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation. JCP is designed to support projects that provide community benefit while creating jobs that provide unemployed EI eligible Clients with opportunities to gain meaningful work experience.

This JCP project will provide 5 unemployed participants in our community with numerous and varied work experience and skill development. The work experience, training and on site instruction will enhance and improve their labour market attachment, Trail grooming experience and equipment operation.

The community support for this project includes the Thompson Nicola Regional District, the Cariboo Regional District, MLA Jackie Tegart, Green Lake and Area Ratepayers Association, Green Lake 70 Mile Business Association and South Green Lake VFD.
